A Cock and Bull Story Synopsis - A Cock and Bull Story centres on two actors Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, who are the two main actors in a film that is currently shooting. The film they are working on is an adaptation of the classic novel Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne - which is a book previously thought to be "unfilmable" due to its constant interruption and digression of a story that never gets told. Coogan is the star of the film, and Brydon is the co-star and as filming continues Coogan's self doubt creeps in and to counter this he starts to assert his authority over the easy going and comfortable Brydon. The story is intercut to the actual film scenes where we see Coogan as Tristram Shandy and Brydon as Toby Shandy. The story is then cut back to behind the scenes of the filming where Coogan is trying to assert his view on how the film should proceed with the director and writers. With his wife and newly born child joining him, a member of the production team wants to have an affair with him, and all the time he see's a relaxed Brydon being the centre of attention with his humorous easy going manner.
