Gregory's Girl Synopsis - Gregory's Girl is set in Scotland and centres around Gregory, a lanky lad in his final years at school. He is also a goalkeeper (and a not very good one at that) in the school football team. When a new girl, Dorothy, has a trial for the football team there is obvious resistance, but when she turns out to be the best player she becomes very popular indeed, not least with Gregory who is smitten with her and does what he can to try and get a date with her. To this end he tries to find out from everyone how he should go about the whole "Girl" thing. But his romantic skills are on a par with his goalkeeping skills. Unexpectedly, he receives news that Dorothy has agreed to go on a date with him, so on a warm summers evening he sets out in his best clothes to pick up his date, but things don't go quite as he had envisaged.

Review of Gregory's Girl - Gregory's Girl is a mostly charming film (save for the unpleasant undertones in the film that seems to portray the attitude that relationships with pupils are a perk of the job for teachers!). That aside, the film is a truly entertaining story off the awkwardness of youth, and entering the brave new world of adulthood. There are some very funny scenes in the film (many including his two hopeless geeky friends). What also is a joy is the appearance of legendary Scottish comedian Chic Murray as the weary headmaster. Both John Gordon Sinclair and Clare Grogan are particularly good in this film. The happy if unexpected ending works incredibly well (and you have to say Gregory definitely made the right choice in the end). The follow up to this film "Gregory's Two Girls" is relatively charmless, not amusing at all, and worse still has similar unpleasant undertones as mentioned above seemingly being deemed acceptable, and actually now the driving force of the plot.
The reasons I recommend Gregory's Girl are: 1. A highly amusing film 2. John Gordon Sinclair and Clare Grogan give very impressive performances.
