How To Get Ahead In Advertising Synopsis - How To Get Ahead In Advertising centres on a young high flying advertising executive. When a new project comes up he needs to think of a suitable sales pitch for a new spot cream he finds his creative juices has for once deserted him. When it becomes clear that he cant think of a suitable slogan, he starts to suffer a crisis in confidence and he and his life begin to fall apart. As his worrying deepens a stress-related boil appears on his shoulder. But things get worse when the boil grows bigger and then develops a mouth and eyes and starts talking to him.

Review of How To Get Ahead In Advertising - Bruce Robinson's previous two screenplays prior to this film were The Killing Fields and Withnail & I - no pressure then. There is no doubt that How To Get Ahead In Advertising is not as brilliant as those two films, but it is a very good film in its own right. People who loved Withnail will certainly love this as the dialogue is so rich and Richard E. Grant plays manically mad so well. The only detrimental thing I can say is the subject matter is not as inspired as you would expect from Bruce Robinson, and its targets seem a bit of an easy / obvious option. Other than that it is a hilarious and well delivered film.
The reasons I recommend How To Get Ahead In Advertising are: 1. Richard E. Grants superb performance. 2. The stunning and hilarious dialogue is delightful throughout.
