Sexy Beast Synopsis - Sexy Beast is set in Spain and centres around Gal, a retired gangster, who leads a happy and quiet life in a beautiful villa with his wife. His quiet life is shattered when Don, an ex-acquaintance of Gal during his gangster days, turns up unexpectedly. Although Gal pretends to be happy to see him, Gal knows that Don is a borderline psychopath. Don tells Gal that there is a massive job on in London and that his "firm" needs Gal to help them carry it out. Gal does not want to do this job or any job as he is happy in his retirement. Don becomes more and more menacing in order to persuade him to agree to do the job. Will Gal be able to get out of doing the job and what might it take to stop Don?

Review of Sexy Beast - British cinema goers demand for the gangster flick has gone through the roof in recent years, and this film is certainly one of the best of the recent crop. Winstone is at his sluggish best in this film, but no question Ben Kinsgley steals the movie and his portrayal as Don is undoubtedly one of the most genuinely scary characters in cinema over the last few years. Add to that the fact that film avoids the cliches of many of its more spectacular gangster movie compatriots and it certainly is one of the most entertaining movies of recent years.
The reasons I recommend Sexy Beast are: 1. Ben Kingsleys portrayal of the psychotic Don is genuinely scary. 2. An excellent pitched movie that avoids the trap of many of its contemporaries.
