The Acid House Synopsis - The Acid House is made up of three separate stories set in Scotland.

Firstly - The Granton Star Case: Boab is having a bad day. He is kicked out of home by his parents, dumped by his girlfriend and even worse booted out by by his football team. He then gets arrested and roughed up by the Police. But when he starts moaning about how bad his life is to a man in a pub his luck gets worse, the man in the pub turns out to be God and changes him into a fly. But could this be his lucky day after all?

Story two - The Soft Touch: The story centres around Johnny (the soft touch) who is married to Catriona (who is hugely sexually promiscuous) and who sees Johnny for the soft touch he is. Johnny soon discovers that their new born baby is not actually his and Catriona openly starts having an affair with Larry the new neighbour upstairs. Whilst they continue the affair they flaunt it in the face of Johnny, whilst he dutifully looks after the child and does the household chores. But when Larry and Catriona hits the rocks will Johnny accept her back?

Story Three - The Acid House. The story centres around CoCo, a foul mouthed hedonist who whilst tripping on acid receives a massive lightning bolt, the side effect of which causes him to switch bodies with a newborn baby.

Review of The Acid House - As a rule I am note really a fan of films that are made up of separate stories, but this for once does actually work - helped not least by Irvine Welsh's writing style. The stories, although having a certain thread running through them, do not actually hang together as such and really work better when regarded as three separate shorts. The stories themselves are hugely funny, but also rather disturbing tales that often veer off into bad taste. The cast (including many familiar names to scottish cinema) has been very well put together and they carry off the stories with great aplomb.
The reasons I recommend The Acid House are: 1. Hilariously funny but bad taste stories from the pen of Irvine Welsh (of Trainspotting fame). 2. Excellent cast that carry off the script and dialogue tremendously well.
