The Killing Of Sister George Synopsis - The Killing Of Sister George centres around June 'George' Buckridge an aging actress who plays the much loved character George, a happy go lucky district nurse, in a long running BBC television soap opera. June lives with her much younger lesbian lover Childie, and the pairs relationship is constantly put to the test by June's insecurity. When a female tv producer manages to arrange for George to be written out of the soap, and then also seduces Childie, June's life starts to unravel, particularly when it becomes clear that she will find it very hard to find any other work as she is so identified with the character of George.

Review of The Killing Of Sister George - The Killing Of Sister George is a very honest and uncompromising exploration of power, and in particular its transitory nature. It was one of the first films to portray Lesbian relationships, and although the story also encompasses elements of the scene, the story is much more of an exploration into complicated nature of power within relationships. Beryl Reid gives an astonishingly powerful performance as June (Gerorge) with her insecurities, bitterness and anger and desperate attempt to keep hold of Childie. She is ably supported by Susannah York as the youthful, mischievous, submissive Childie. The joy in this movie is of the developing relationship when the balance of power starts to change.
The reasons I recommend The Killing Of Sister George are: 1.An Excellent script 2. Superb performances by Beryl Reid, Susannah York and Coral Browne
