Scary
movies # 5 - The Evil Dead
Year: 1981 Director: Sam
Raimi

The
term "Video Nasty" could have been invented for
The Evil Dead - the ultimate ultra low budget horror flick .
A group
of teenagers go on vacation to a secluded forest cabin
and discover a tape recorder
translation of The Book Of The Dead. Playing the tape
unleashes evil spirits into the forest
which then begin to pick them off one by one turning
them into zombies.
A
familiar plot line? Plenty have imitated it none
have succeeded in bettering it. (The
Blair Witch Project -
pah! That's just like a walk in the park). What makes The
Evil Dead so special? Its originality, its unique atmosphere,
its lo-fi gore and special fx, and its underlying
sense of humour.
