Scary movies # 12 - An American Werewolf in London

Year: 1981 Director: John Landis

The Birds DVD Cover - surely some kind of scarcrow would have helped.

"Stay on the road, keep clear of the moors" - probably best to avoid Piccadilly Circus too if the final scene is anything to go by.

Two American backpackers are trudging along the Yorkshire moors when they are attacked a werewolf one is killed whilst the other recuperates in hospital unfortunately not aware that he will now become a werewolf at the next full moon.

The wit of John Landis, allied to some stunning special effects come together to make this the top werewolf movie of all time. Where this film truly excels is the way it skips along quite beautifully between moments of humour and horror. The make up and special effects on the film are also absolutely stunning (the stretching transformation from human to werewolf is an amazing piece of cinema magic).
