The first mainstream "Gay" Western tells one of the
most powerful love stories in modern cinema. It is of course much
more than just a gay western, in that it taps into themes that
are universal - love, prejudice, honor and regret.
When
this film was first announced their was a certain expected furore
amongst the usual bigoted ranks, which made you wonder whether
this film would be allowed to flourish and become successful.
Well the film certainly pulled it off with an impressive intensity,
and was quite rightly instantly rewarded with both critical and
public acclaim.
Fair
to say though those going to see the film expecting a western
would have been sorely disappointed - the acting was far too good
for a western.
