| One
of the truly romantic stories of all time, not least for it's
romantic view of those trouble times. That being said it is a
classic. Clark Cable is dashingly handsome, Vivien Leigh is precociously
beautiful, and the whole film looks gorgeous too.
It
makes you wonder how an Indian born, posh English lady, was deemed
to be perfect for the role of a flighty southern belle, but it
was perfect casting. One down side to the film is it's running
length, the latest releases run to a cut of 3hrs and 58mins, which
seems to be expanding all the time as more restorable footage
is found all the time, there is supposedly another 47mins floating
about from the original cut so it could end up being 4hrs 45 mins
long. In that time you could have watched Notting Hill three times
- it's a frightening thought.
