Ernest Saves Christmas
Well
here we are with the ultimate test of Christmas
spirit - watching an Ernest film?
The
story surrounds Ernest (yes the Ernest) who is
employed as a taxi driver
in Orlando, Florida. He one day picks up a man at
the airport who just happens to be Santa Claus.
Santa is on his way to inform
a local children's tv show host (Joe), that
he has been chosen to be the new Santa. When
they arrive at the destination
Santa finds he has no money on him,
but Ernest lets him
off the fare in the spirit of christmas . Unfortunately
the taxi company is not so benevolent and fires Ernest
from his job. Clearing out the cab Ernest find that
Santa has left behind his magic sack and starts out
on a quest to find him and return the sack to him.
In the meantime Joe and his agent have Santa arrested
as they don't believe his story. Ernest helps Santa
escape from jail but there is still the problem of
finding another Santa (and someone to drive the sleigh
- hmmm!).
The
are some films that are so bad they are good, others
which are just plain bad, and there is this one
which is so dumb and so bad that its entertaining.
The Ernest movies seem to exist in a universe all
of their own, which seemingly is why there is not
even a pretense that are trying to make a
good movie. The writing is terrible , the acting
only slightly better (but certainly consistent)
and even the obviously small budget looks like
its been spent badly. So why recommend to you such
a bad film? Well sometimes (and usually it's Christmas)
when you are relaxing and have nothing better to
do, its nice to watch a ridiculously dumb, double
bad film, and boy does this movie match those descriptions.
The enjoyment of watching a film because its so
bad its funny is a rare and precious thing, so
suspend your disbelief (in how bad the film is),
keep the Kapra movies for another day, sit back,
switch off and allow yourself into the guilty pleasure
of stupidity, and specifically the only Ernest
movie you will ever need to watch.
