To get him away from the bad influence of his friends his mother moves him away to another town. We next see Evan at university where he is studying Psychology with particular relevance to memory. When he revisits his diary he discovers that he is able to relive the memories that were blacked out a the time be physically transported to that time in order to change the bad things that happened. But this "gift" is a fragile one.

Review of Butterfly Effect - Butterfly Effect is a terrifically well thought out and executed story. Some of the dialogue is rather signposted in places, but the invention employed in the plot actually keeps the element of suspense high throughout the film. This film is very much plot driven but the casting is pretty good overall and they each judge their varied roles well. The film has a sleight ring of mainstream corner cutting to it and had it chosen to take a more authentic and unusual approach (in particular its settings and dialogue) then I'm sure it could have had a similar impact as Donnie Darko. So it is some what of a missed opportunity to have made a classic, but, at the end of the day, it is still a really great film.
The reasons I recommend Butterfly Effect are: 1. A fantastic and hugely inventive story. 2. The plot is the star of this film.
