Going Places Synopsis - Going Places is set in around the French countryside and centres around two young drifters - Jean Claude and Pierrot. These amoral criminals do have their own twisted value system, taking whatever they want from whoever they want to take it from - be it, cars, money or sex as they travel from place to place. But their lives are about to be influenced by two women along the way. Marie-Ange a frigid beautician who the pair try and fail to unlock her pleasure, and Jeane Pirolle a mature ex -convict who is more than eager to receive the pairs attention. As they continue their journey they discover that they cannot have control of everything. |
| Review of Going Places - Going Places is a very dark comedy centring around the two despicable main characters exploits. Its like a gallic version of Clockwork Orange meets the "Confessions of " movies. The original French title of this film - Les Valseuses - actually translates as "The Testicles" which is a big clue to the spirit of this film. What particularly enlivens this film, apart from the farcical action, is the appearance of Gerard Depardieu, who is marvelous in his by turns brutal and delicate role. A film well worth seeking out - but make sure you watch the subtitled French language version and not the version with the awful American dubbing. |
| The reasons I recommend Going Places are: 1. A fantastic performance by Gerard Depardieu. 2. A superbly amoral tale. |
