Romper Stomper Synopsis - Romper Stomper is set in Melbourne, Australia and centres around a group of lawless Nazi skinheads who seek to reclaim "their place" from the local Vietnamese community who they claim are threatening racial purity. After much intimidation, the Vietnamese community confront the gang, and gain their revenge over them . Gabe, a young girl joins the group, is attracted to the viscous leader of the group - Hando. But the obvious limits of the blind hatred of the gangs philosophy is all to apparent to her, and when her epileptic seizures are seen as a result of impurity her presence begins to split the gangs allegiance, and Hando begins to turn up the ante even further. |
| Review of Romper Stomper - Romper Stomper is a brutal but powerful film. There is little overt comment about the simplistic street gangs nazi philosophy, but the limitations of their philosophy is rightly all too apparent as the characters double-standards begin to back into themselves. This is not an easy film to watch as the violence is all to real and the mindlessness of their ideology is depressingly familiar. Although there are similarities to Clockwork Orange in the study of gang mentality, and youths susceptibility to being led, glorification of violence etc, this film makes Clockwork Orange look like a stroll in the park. Romper Stomper is an all too real portrayal of the brutal right wing extremists that blight our societies. |
| The reasons I recommend Romper Stomper are: 1. A brutal story that pulls no punches in its portrayal of extremists within our societies. |
